Harwich from Shotley at night
This semi-abstract work is an experiment for me. It marries together many things I wanted to work with, light on water at night when it’s calm and heavy, thick oils that remind me of the mess on the palette after I’ve been painting. I did this in one sitting, working from several reference photos I took after a trip to Shotley, I wanted to recreate the feeling of doing it there. Painted with just a palette knife, it was an intense couple of hours that was mentally exhausting. Very messy too, I kept dropping things in the paint!
