Colchester War Memorial view
I was out in Colchester at the ‘Dice and a Slice’ café and met a lovely day who had come to visit the town purely to see the statue on the top of the war memorial in front of the castle. Apparently, it has an identical twin in another town, and for the life of me I can’t remember where she said it was (do tell me if you know). Anyway, it made me look at it afresh and realise what a beautiful piece of work we have in our midst – a bold angel with a sword guarding our lovely castle, beauty resulting from a great collective trauma.
