Chappel viaduct steam at sunrise
5. On a cold and frosty morning in the early 1990s there was a special steam excursion that went over the stunning brick viaduct at Chappel. Years later and I’m taking part in a drawing challenge organised by ‘Drink and Draw’ Colchester, the prompt is ‘viaduct’ and I dig out my old photograph of the steam engine on the viaduct, taken from the Swan pub car park. I don’t think the viaduct has seen a steam engine since.
